Now, the murderer won't ever be able to sleep



That night nobody slept
Neither we, sitting at home
Nor mother, standing outside the ICU
We could not sleep after that night
Waiting for Papa to return
And, one day Papa returned
Wrapped in the same shroud
Which he had always kept with him passionately
And flowers on that shroud never allowed us to sleep
During those nights we were not alone awake
Chhatrapati was up with us
And constantly telling us
Don't ever go to sleep
Till I sleep in peace
He constantly told us
Don't ever go to sleep
Till the murderers are behind bars
Now, Papa is sleeping
And, the murderer is awake in the darkness of prison
Tonight, the murderer won't be able to sleep
Chhatrapati's shroud will become a noose and will keep him awake, frighten him, make him cry from his every slumber
Yes, the murderer won't be able to sleep...ever

*अब कातिल कभी सो नहीं पायेगा*

उस रात कोई नहीं सोया था
न घर में बैठे हम
न आईसीयू के बाहर चिंतित खड़ी मां
उस रात के बाद हम कई दिन नहीं सोये
पापा के घर लौटने के इंतज़ार में,
और फिर पापा लौट आये
उसी कफ़न में लिपटे हुए जो बड़े जूनून के साथ उन्होंने अपने साथ रखा था हमेशा और फिर उस कफ़न पर लिपटे फूलों ने कभी सोने नहीं दिया हमें
उन रातों में
हम ही नहीं जगे थे अकेले
छत्रपति भी जगे थे हमारे साथ
और कहते रहे
सो मत जाना
मेरे चैन से सो जाने तक
वह कहते रहे
सो मत जाना
कातिल के सलाखों में जाने तक अब पापा चैन से सो रहे हैं
और जेल के अँधेरे में जग रहा है कातिल आज रात कातिल सो नहीं पाएगा छत्रपति का कफ़न उसके गले का फंदा बन
हर झपकी से उसे अचानक
जगायेगा, डरायेगा, रुलाएगा ,

हाँ ! कातिल अब कभी सो नहीं पायेगा

-गुलजार हुसैन प्रेमचंद का साहित्य और सिनेमा के विषय पर सोचते हुए मुझे वर्तमान फिल्म इंडस्ट्री के साहित्यिक रुझान और इससे जुड़ी उथल-पुथल को समझने की जरूरत अधिक महसूस होती है। यह किसी से छुपा नहीं है कि पूंजीवादी ताकतों का बहुत प्रभाव हिंदी सहित अन्य भाषाओं की फिल्मों पर है।...और मेरा तो यह मानना है की प्रेमचंदकालीन सिनेमा के दौर की तुलना में यह दौर अधिक भयावह है , लेकिन इसके बावजूद साहित्यिक कृतियों पर आधारित अच्छी फिल्में अब भी बन रही हैं।  साहित्यिक कृतियों पर हिंदी भाषा में या फिर इससे इतर अन्य भारतीय भाषाओं में अच्छी फिल्में बन रही हैं , यह एक अलग विषय है लेकिन इतना तो तय है गंभीर साहित्यिक लेखन के लिए अब भी फिल्मी राहों में उतने ही कांटे बिछे हैं , जितने प्रेमचंद युग में थे। हां , स्थितियां बदली हैं और इतनी तो बदल ही गई हैं कि नई पीढ़ी अब स्थितियों को बखूबी समझने का प्रयास कर सके। प्रेमचंद जो उन दिनों देख पा रहे थे वही ' सच ' अब नई पीढ़ी खुली आंखों से देख पा रही है। तो मेरा मानना है कि साहित्यिक कृतियों या साहित्यकारों के योगदान की उपेक्षा हिंदी सिनेम

Premchand’s Torn Shoes

By Harishankar Parsai There is a photograph of Premchand in front of me, he has posed with his wife. Atop his head sits a cap made of some coarse cloth. He is clad in a kurta and dhoti. His temples are sunken, his cheek-bones jut out, but his lush moustache lends a full look to his face. He is wearing canvas shoes and its laces are tied haphazardly. When used carelessly, the metal lace-ends come off and it   becomes difficult to insert the laces in the lace-holes. Then, laces are tied any which way. The right shoe is okay but there is a large hole in the left shoe, out of which a toe has emerged. My sight is transfixed on this shoe. If this is his attire while posing for a photograph, how must he be dressing otherwise? I wonder. No, this is not a man who has a range of clothes, he does not possess the knack of changing clothes. "Pahinjo Hikdo Hi Yaar AA" bags 4 awards at 2nd Sindhi Film Festival, Delhi

Sindhi movie "Pahinjo Hikdo Hi Yaar AA" (PHHYA) bagged 4 awards at 2nd Sindhi Film Festival held this week at New Delhi by Sindhi Academy, Delhi Government. According to sources related to PHHYA, the movie which created history by premiering in Dubai in 2014, got awards for Best film (popular), Best director (Ramesh Nankani), Best Actor (Jeetu Vazirani) and Best Music Director (Hitesh Udhani). Award for best music was shared by Kamlesh Vaidya and Vijay Rupani (Vardaan)    The festival held on 27th and 28th May at Sirifort Stadium, New Delhi, screened 4 movies; PHHYA, Nai Shuruaat, Vardhaan and Trapadd Teshion Tey. Nai Shuruaat, a movie based on thalasemmia, bagged awards in category of Best film (critics) and Best cinematography (Unnidivakaran D Vinod). While Vardaan, with a message to save girl child, got award for Best female actor (Komal Chandnani) also.
